These photos are from the first roll of film I’ve shot in quite some time, and as part of exploring the hobby of film photography. Before then, the last time I can remember using a film camera was in either elementary or middle school on school field trips. By this time, my parents had at least both a film and digital camera. Of course, they’re not going to give their grade school son one of their more expensive cameras to take on a field trip. So instead, they’ve given me disposable ones.
I know I was given a couple for a fifth-grade field trip, and possibly an eighth-grade field trip. I didn’t get my first smart phone until my sophomore year of high school. I had a Samsung Juke before that.
I think of that whenever I see the disposable cameras in Walmart. Parents give their kids these cheap foolproof cameras for fieldtrips before they’re old enough to have an iPhone. Of course, the other likely reason being events such as weddings where they are left out on tables for guests to take pictures.
No matter how young I was when I last used or loaded a film camera, there was a sense of familiarness when I loaded my Nikon EM for the first time. Anyway, here are some of the photos from that experience.
